Hinduism once a marriage takes place it is considered to be final ( even if a man finds that his wife is suffering from mental illnesses or anything else ) he cannot leave her or ask for divorce . In Hinduism a marriage is considered to an auspicious union & is sacrosant. Not only that this marriage is last for 7 lives & is a consequence of his/her karma of their previous lives .
According to Hindu scriptures , there is no concept of divorce. If a man is unhappy with his family life he can leave his wife ( as in ramayana ) in the care of his parents ( or her parents ) or still further take sanyasa. Even otherwise a man cannot undertake sanyasa (Cutting all his wordly ties ) , if he hasn't fulfilled his family responsibilities.
I personally think that concept of Divorce is foreign , & has been imposed on Hindu Society.Hinduism by itself doesn't recognise divorce & in no traditional Hindu family , I believe other family members, will agree to a divorce between a Husband & wife ( even if it is a failed marriage ).
